“**Knowledgeable and thoughtful tutor**”

After graduating with distinction in the field of mathematics, I worked for 25+ years as a financial analyst and auditor for Fortune 100 companies. During that time, I worked with people in a variety of backgrounds. I found that the simplest explanations work best for building understanding.

Five years ago, I began homeschooling my son

In-person lessons

Megan has provided so many necessary tidbits to success in Algebra for my son, beyond repetition. She is making it relevant to him, and also giving ideas for cheats in remembering concepts.

She was very good at explaining Geometry and the different definitions and she taught us how to study efficiently for any exam coming up. With her help we are able to understand anything that we had trouble in in the past.

Megan taught me and my friend Sarah all of the lessons that we couldn't understand in ways that 'clicked' for us. She showed us shortcuts that benefited us so much and I am so happy we found her on WyzAnt!

Megan is very friendly, open and knowledgeable of different learning styles and methods. She readily keeps a "judge free zone" . She celebrates students mastery of a concept while acknowledging where there might be gaps. She has great respect for her student, (my 13 yo unschooled daughter) for her input and problem solving ideas. I highly recommend Megan.

Approved subjects are in **bold**.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

I have always loved algebra and I try to share that enthusiasm with my students. If they don't love it by the end of our time together, they at least have mastery and confidence in their algebraic abilities. Algebra is manageable when it is made relevant and meaningful to students. I have spent the last three years working with students to help them be successful with their studies in school.

I grew up in New York State and we were required to take Regents Exams. I passed my trigonometry Regents exam with a perfect score. Although not everyone uses trigonometry and algebra 2 everyday, the core fundamentals of mathematics still hold. Once you have those fundamentals, it is just a matter of applying them to higher order mathematics.

I have worked with students from elementary to high school to help them become more capable and confident with math. I have direct experience with ADHD students.

We encounter geometry in our lives every day. We just may not be aware of all the geometry that we encounter. My approach to teaching geometry includes proofs, hands on projects and problem sets.

I have homeschooled my 15 year old son for the last five years. I have taught ELA, science, social studies and math at the elementary and high school level, individually and in co-op classes. I try to meet my students where they are and build from there. For me, it is important to make the lessons relevant to the students in order to facilitate learning.

I learned Excel in college. During my career as a financial analyst and auditor, Excel was the primary tool that I used to complete my job, answer analytical questions, budget, and forecast. While I don't use Excel on a daily basis anymore, I still use it in my volunteer and personal activities.

I have an MBA in Finance and International Business from New York University and 25+ years experience in Finance with Fortune 100 companies. I have 5 years of experience tutoring elementary and high school students in math, including pre-algebra, algebra and geometry.
