About George

The coursework in physics is an extensive overview of many mathematical topics, including algebra, geometry, and calculus (multi-variable or vector). A strong intuition of maths and the language used to describe physical phenomena is something I have gained in my studies, and lends itself well to teaching these topics to others. I hold a Bachelors in Physics from SUNY at Albany, and was afforded the opportunity to work in an optical laboratory during that time. In addition, I also have taught the classical guitar privately and in several private schools in Upstate New York. I have over 6 years year of instruction, having earned my Associates degree in music performance for classical guitar. I am well-versed in music theory and jazz.

Physics is an extensive exploration of calculus, and I have studied its applications beyond the mathematical setting. Vector calculus, in many of it's forms, was constructed and expanded it order to accommodate electromagnetic theory, of which I have studied in academic and research settings.

I hold an undergraduate degree in Physics. I have studied kinematics, classical mechanics, electromagnetism, quantum mechanics, solid state mechanics, thermodynamics and optical theory. Many of these topics have been applied in research settings, under guidance of peers and professors.

I have an associates degree in Music Performance for the Classical Guitar. I have been a private, and in-school, instructor of guitar and music fundamentals for 5 years, having been hired upon recommendations of my private instructors. I have a strong music theory background, reinforced by years of performance in both jazz and classical styles.

You will find me a patient and adaptive tutor. I have instructed a variety of ages and skill levels, and will find a method that is suited to your needs. If you want a thorough approach to guitar playing, including sight reading, applied chord theory, chorale study, and ear training, consider taking a few lessons with me. If you need a better means to connect the sometimes-abstract maths of physics to the real-world phenomena it simulates, I can help you. Math and music are languages that we can practice together!

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Ear Training

I have graduated, with honors, from SUNY Schenectady with a Music Performance Associates for the classical guitar. I excelled in music theory and aural skills (ear training) and actively integrate solfege, Kodaly methods into my instruction.

The Music Performance degree at SUNY Schenectady required a audition that demanded a level of aptitude in ear training. In my degree, I have completed "Ear Training and Sight Singing", and "Aural Skills I-IV", a total of five classes over the course of 3 years. Our Aural Skills classes required dictation and listening/transcription exercises of melodic and harmonic examples. The main portion of our grade came from daily performance of the assigned dictations, having only 2 opportunities per class to perform, i.e. sing, the melody correctly. Sight singing required us to use "movable Do" solfege for melodies in G, F, and C clefs. We studied traditional harmony to atonal harmony in the western tradition of music.

Guitar

I have graduated, with honors, from SUNY Schenectady with a Music Performance Associates for the classical guitar. I excelled in music theory and aural skills (ear training) and actively integrate solfege, Kodaly methods into my instruction. My time their earned me the recognition to be suggested for hire in a private faculty through the Cady School of Music, in Albany, NY. Having recently moved, I had been employed there for 5 years, teaching private , and in-school lessons to over 50 students, in several styles of music, of various ages and abilities, including some with disabilities.

I have performed for more than 10 years in classical, jazz, folk, progressive, and rock styles, including being employed as the house musician for an Italian restaurant. There, I performed a solo set every Saturday night for 4 hours, for over 2 years.
