About Chad

I began tutoring Geometry when I was in high school, and since then have fallen in love with education. My teaching experience continued in college while attending College of the Holy Cross as a Psychology major. In the Honors Program, I developed a thesis that focused on applying a cognitive theory of how students learn to classroom instruction. While conducting research in the classroom, I also gained significant teaching experience as an SAT-prep Math and College Consultation instructor with the Let's Get Ready Program.

I continued my education at the Harvard Graduate School of Education so I could discover how to further improve student learning through cognitive theory. In the Mind, Brain, and Education program, I developed multiple research projects that sought to apply Cognitive Psychology to both Science and Mathematics education, and I gained crucial experience in a Mathematics Education research laboratory with experienced and well-known Harvard University faculty member Jon Star.

After obtaining my Master's Degree in Education, I began working as a student adviser for under-served middle and high school students at the Steppingstone Foundation, where I taught and developed curriculum for Mathematics ISEE/SSAT test-prep courses, tutored all subjects, and provided individual college consultation to high school juniors and seniors. I also advised middle school students throughout the independent school application process.

Currently, I am the manager of an academic enrichment program in Boston, in which I supervise our program teachers and the curriculum. I also teach ISEE/SSAT Mathematics, Writing, SAT Mathematics, and College Advising courses for the program, and I tutor multiple students in reading, mathematics, ISEE/SSAT, and SAT test preparation.

Throughout my education, I have researched and developed the skills necessary to enhance student learning based on how their brain develops. What I love most about teaching and tutoring is that I get to put that knowledge and research into practice in order to benefit students of all ages.

Helping students is my primary career objective, so I guarantee our lessons will be well-planned and executed!

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

College Counseling

I run a College Consultation program, where I train high school juniors in time management, study skills, GPA management, extracurricular involvement, leadership development, etc. I work with these students into their senior years as well, where we work closely together on building strong college essays, effective resumes, and overall strong Common Applications for the colleges and universities of their choice.

ISEE

Since graduating from Harvard, I have been developing and implementing ISEE curricula. I developed a curriculum to help students succeed on the math sections of the Middle Level ISEE. In my current position as a Program Manager at the Academic Student Center, I tutor students in the verbal sections of the Lower, Middle, and Upper ISEE and SSAT, and I continue to develop and teach courses on conquering the math sections of the ISEE and SSAT. For the past three years, I have been teaching, tutoring, and developing curricula for both the ISEE and SSAT for all levels.

Public Speaking

I have given a number of speeches that contribute to my public speaking experience. As a senior in the Honor's Program at the College of the Holy Cross, I presented my thesis at Harvard University as one of twelve Plenary Speakers for the Council of Undergraduate Research. Since then, I have delivered numerous speeches throughout my career. I have helped to develop a curriculum for a public speaking course in my current position as an educational manager, in addition to delivering multiple seminars on practicing effective communication skills. Most recently, I delivered a workshop at Cambridge College for the 2015 McDonald's Education Workshop on how to prepare for the New SAT and strengthening leadership through strong communication skills.

Study Skills

As an educational manager, my job is to help students develop the proper study skills to advance in their primary and secondary education and beyond. At the Steppingstone Foundation, I advised students from middle through high school on how to succeed in rigorous educational environments such as top private schools in Massachusetts like Milton Academy, Buckingham Browne & Nichols, Roxbury Latin, the Winsor School, etc. In my current position, I ensure students can gain entrance to these schools by practicing effective study skills. I also work closely with high school students on their GPA management to ensure they gain access to the top college of their choice by their senior year. At the Steppingstone Foundation, I taught a course in Study Skills that developed students' time management, self advocacy, note-taking, active reading and listening skills, and study habits such as making flashcards and maintaining a growth mindset. For the academic enrichment program I currently manage, I seek to incorporate these effective study skills into each course's curriculum.

Patient tutor with lots of knowledge about private schools — Chad has not only been great tutoring my son for the SSAT, but has been a wealth of knowledge about the secondary school application process. He even helped to calm me, a very nervous mother about the process. They have developed a nice working relationship and my son has a big smile on his face when they are finished. ...
