My interest in History has been lifelong, and as a result it has lead me through two different degrees in search of more knowledge. I've spent the last year earning my Master's Degree in Teaching with a focus in History, and the five years prior to that working toward a Bachelors in Psychology, with a minor in History, at Northeastern University.
I spent much of my Master's teaching classes at Newton North High School in World History, and through those classes I found myself working with students to help improve their writing for my class, as well as furthering their knowledge of History.
I've realized that teaching is something that I can't live without, and I work hard to make sure that students are engaged, whether they want to be challenged or just need a little extra help in a subject. My goal is for my students to leave feeling as though they've learned, and feel that education is an important aspect of their lives.
I've spent six years in higher education, writing, reading, and proofreading papers from many different subjects. Just this last year during my student teaching for my Master's degree I helped my classes to write a few different papers concentrating on world history, as well as writing a number of papers covering a variety of subjects myself. I believe that these years of hands-on experience and my time teaching are at the core of my skills as a writing tutor.
History has been a passion of mine for a long time. It's something that I've read extensively on, and traveled extensively to experience first hand. These motivations to know more, and continually expand the scope of history I am familiar with drove me to want to teach history to high schoolers, and I think my time in front of the classroom will help me to find the right way to work with students to improve their love of a subject I find so fascinating.
If you have a passion for learning and want a dedicated tutor to help you with what you need please send me an email. I'd be more than willing to help or discuss if there is some way we can work together to meet your goals. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
During my time student teaching I worked as a resource for some of my students after school to work on organizing their time for all of their subjects and personal time. This included help studying and how to improve study skills for my class and for other classes. Working together we were able to make headway on increasing their test averages across the board, and help them feel more prepared to manage their study time in the coming years.
