I have always had a love of learning math and science and sharing this love with others through tutoring. As a magna cum laude physics major in college, I took the time to be a teaching assistant for introductory physics courses and to tutor AP Physics at the local high school in the area. My graduate education in mechanical and biomedical engineering has also given me the ability to help students with engineering problems and GRE preparation, particularly in math.
While my tutoring background has been in physics, I am also passionate about sharing my love of mathematics with students and tutoring them in a range of topics in mathematics, in addition to the math portion of the SAT. I am a patient teacher who understands where the key conceptual snags are in mathematics and physics, and I take the time to make sure the student feels comfortable and strong about the current material before moving on to the next lesson.
Despite my professionalism, I make sure that students have fun with the coursework at the same time and offer fun examples and ways of looking at challenging problems. I can be flexible with timing but maintain a 24-hour cancellation policy. I look forward to hearing from you and sharing my passion of learning math with promising young students! I just met with Ben for the first time and he was amazing. He was very accommodating and even met me on my campus on a Sunday afternoon. He very quickly and efficiently explained concepts to me and was able to provide multiple viewpoints to the topic, as to ensure my understanding. I recommend him highly and will be meeting with him again!
Ben C. is a very patient and polite teacher. His math skills are incredible. He goes over the lesson very patiently. I would recommend him for anyone looking for math and SAT coaching.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I was an engineering major at Dartmouth College and as a result have taken many courses either centered around Matlab or requiring lots of Matlab. Through these experiences I developed a strong proficiency with the language. I also completed graduate coursework in classes requiring Matlab and worked on a variety of research projects (both as a lead researcher and as a mentor) that required Matlab coding. I have a comfort with the language and this comfort allows me to explain key concepts to others.
