I have a diverse background in education. I have worked with special needs, special education, and regular education populations. I taught 11th grade English last year, and tutored students in English over the past 3 years. I also assisted various students with their English and History writing assignments, as well as providing assistance and guidance with editing, proofreading, and revision. I have six years of experience assisting students with emotional, behavioral, and cognitive disabilities. On top of my years of teaching experience, I am also an avid reader and writer; I have written several short stories, poems, essays, plays, a non-fiction book and a novel.
I am a very personable and compassionate teacher. I believe that patience, an understanding of each student's abilities, a calm demeanor, and the ability to listen are the key components to being an effective instructor. I also believe that like learning, there must be diversity with teaching. I try to make learning and practicing new skills fun and interesting instead of repetitive and laborious. My goal is to not simply help students become better readers and writers but to develop a passion for literature.
Outside of English Language Arts, I also have experience coaching high school track and field and weight training. I was an assistant track and field coach at Wellesley High School, where I had also run personal fitness and weight training programs. I have spent several summers directing and coaching sports summer camps, such as Skyhawks Sports Camp, where I have taught children ages 4-16 a variety of athletic skills.
My passion for literature and athletics is only matched by my passion to teach. If you would like to learn something new or to improve your current skills while having fun, please contact me! For 2+ students, my rate is $80/hr. The $60/hr rate does not change, unless the lesson goes for more than 3 hours. The rate will then go to $90/hr for every additional hour.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have a Master of Arts degree in English, and I taught 11th grade English at Wellesley High School.
