About John-Koby

I recently graduated from Lesley University with a Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education and English Literature with a minor in Psychology. I currently hold initial licenses in Elementary Education (Grades 1-6) and Middle School Education (ELA 5-8). I tutored as part of my senior community service project in high school, but have also worked as a student teacher in the Medford school district. This experience coupled with my coursework have given me the requisite tools needed to be an effective tutor. I was also employed as a special education paraprofessional in the Somerset Public School district.

In addition to my background in education, I also have experience as a baseball coach (Head Coach and Assistant) in the Fall River area. Working as a coach gave me valuable experience with finding different ways to motivate student-athletes to reach their full potential, which is something that is extremely important as a tutor. I am highly qualified for this position, and would be an asset to our child's academic growth.

I am an effective English tutor because the subject is one of my passions. I have studied English Literature throughout college, and therefore have acquired a great deal on knowledge on the subject. When this knowledge is coupled with my teaching skills, I can deliver a wide range of content to a wide range of students.

As an elementary education major, I learned to be both informative and fun. My students enjoy learning with me because I make the material interesting. I am not planning on meeting with your child and reviewing a boring textbook. I will make learning fun for them. For example, during my student teaching I taught a lesson on the Battle of Bunker Hill. Rather than have students learn it strictly from a textbook, I taught them about the battle through a discussion, then had them create the battle scene with toy soldiers, and finally they designed and drew an alternate battle strategy for the British, who suffered heavy casualties during the battle. This is how I teach. I get students interested in the content so that they invest in their own learning.

As a tutor, I bring energy and dedication. However, I also bring fun. The time that I spend with a student with be informative, but it will not be boring because a bored learner is an inattentive learner. Schedule a lesson with me if you are looking for an outstanding tutor that is committed to both content and skill-based education
