About Kate

I am a mother of 2 who recently earned a master's degree in elementary education. I have years of experience working with special needs students on the autism spectrum and with ADHD. I know that learning experiences have to be real for these student in order for them to understand the subject being taught. I also realize that part of education is about building a student's confidence to learn. I'd be happy to work with your students to lessen the stress of homework and learning new material. Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ADD/ADHD

I hold a SPED teaching license from the state of MA, and work with various students with ADD/ADHD. I realize not all learning needs to be done sitting at a desk, and frequent breaks are required to make learning effective.

Autism

I am familiar with ABA methodology, and have worked as an ABA therapist in various districts with students from 1- 8th grade. I tutor students at home on social skills, and ADL, and work closely with BCBA's to develop programs and track data.

Dyslexia

I am a Licensed Special Ed teacher and am familiar with a multi-sensory approach which is an effective system of instruction for individuals with Language Based learning issues. I am trained in Wilson Reading, and have over 10 years of experience with proven results.

Elementary (K-6th)

I have a Master's degree in Elementary Ed, and hold a teaching license from the state of MA for grades 1-6. I am currently working as a SPED teacher for 2-4 grade, and have taught summer school for students ranging from K-6th grade.

Phonics

I am a licensed Elementary/SPED teacher and teach these building blocks of reading and writing daily. I am also trained in Wilson reading system, a direct, multisensory approach to learning encoding and decoding of the English language.

Reading

I am trained in Wilson Reading and hold licenses in both general education and Special Education.

Special Needs

I have a SPED license from the state of MA, and work as a Special Needs teacher in a local school district. I work closely with students on the ASD spectrum, students with ADHD, students with specific and non-specific learning disabilities. I also test and write IEP's for students, so I am very familiar with accommodations and modifications for the common core curriculum.

Study Skills

I am a licensed Elementary ed teacher and a licensed Sped teacher. I have worked with students on the autism spectrum, which requires precise data and organization. I am well versed in paper and pencil as well as electronic techniques for staying organized.

Experienced tutor. — I have been working on a lesson plan for graduate school. I am working towards a Masters in Special Education, Moderate Disabilities, Grades 5-12. I had many different ideas for the lesson plan but it was too long and did not flow well. Kate helped me make it smaller and flow better without compromising what I need to cover everything. ...
