I have over two decades of teaching experience and I offer patient, sequential, and articulate assistance to students of all ages and walks of life.
I have held teaching appointments at museums and universities (most recently Harvard, Wellesley, School of the Art Institute of Chicago) and have also privately mentored writers, filmmakers, graduate students, international students, business professionals, aspiring artists...
I've worked with middle-school students in tandem with City Arts and Providence After School Alliance; I trained extensively with Rhode Island Public Quality Assessment, an organization dedicated to developing safe and inspiring after-school programs.
I've also worked with older adult learning communities and recently launched a program to teach hand-drawn animation to life long learners.
My own work - visual art and films - have exhibited internationally in museums, galleries, and festivals for the last two decades. I've been a Fulbright Scholar and have been the recipient of many grants, arts residencies, and art commissions. Sarah Jane is like a Dancing With The Stars professional and I'm like the celebrity. I'm twice her age and have my own expectations about being treated with respect or consideration, or whatever; but her job is to be challenging and demanding so that I learn and excel. But she also has to walk the fine psychological line of building a relationship so we do well together. It's called Transformational Leadership. We both hope to earn 10's from each other. She's great!
Thank you for your teaching and guidance!
I truly appreciate every class you have given to me, and every meeting we had these months. I have learned a lot from you, and I never imagined I could have done these much writings in English!
Also, it was an amazing experience of knowing you and having you as my tutor. For me, you are a very talented, smart, responsible and inspirational teacher and friend! (all of these adjectives can't really describe my feelings though) I also like your paintings and videos, some of them are pretty cute! (like "The Gift") I hope I will know you more as an artist in the future!
From now on, I may no longer need to do any writing assignment for application. But I still hope we can meet one more time, because I want to say thank you in person.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I help students find their voice, their own authentic language. I ask them to use application essay-writing as an opportunity to ask the important questions: who are you? who do you want to be? and what risks are you willing to take?
I myself have written innumerable essays - as a successfully matriculated student to Brown University and the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, as a Fulbright Scholar, and as a recipient of numerous highly competitive grants, fellowships, and artist residencies.
Drawing IS thinking. Our drawings show us what our souls want. I love bringing the joy of perceptive and imagined spaces to everyone. I have been drawing for thirty years and I most enjoy working with pen and ink. My own drawings exhibit in museums, galleries, newspapers, magazines... I draw on paper and I draw for animated films. I studied drawing at RISD, Brown University, and the School of the Art Institute of Chicago.
I will teach you how to write for stage, page, or screen, and, in general, fall in love with language!
I have helped thousands of students at universities across the nation - Harvard, Wellesley, School of the Art Institute of Chicago, Brown University...
Whether you're writing an essay for 11th grade English or forging your memoir I can help you find the words that best express your most meaningful thoughts. I want you to create images that stun the world!
I love helping people see the exquisite details of this universe.
Media production allows us to share our gratitude for the world and I'm happy to help you learn how to make images that make life worth living!
I have made over twenty films in the last few decades working with 16mm and 35mm negative as well as with various forms of digital video production. I hold a Master in Fine Art from the Department of Filmmaking at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago.
I'm known specifically for my own hand-drawn animation and experimental non-fiction films which I exhibit internationally.
I work as a writer/director/producer/editor/animator.

Reading opens doors to worlds of wonder.
I invite you to work with me and learn how narrative (story) teaches us about ourselves - how point of view, character development, and voice give us an understanding of relational ethics.
I will teach you how to choose a paper, a brush, and a medium that makes you happy.
I will show you images that inspire you.
I myself specialize in gouache and have exhibited my work for the last two decades internationally. I hold a Masters in Fine Art from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago.
I have an MFA from the Department of Filmmaking at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. I studied with many great Czech cinematographers while a Fulbright fellow at the acclaimed FAMU (School of Film/Photography) in Prague.
My sharp eyes have chiseled thousands of gems.
When self-editing (especially on a tight deadline) a writer may fail to see redundancies, weak verb choices, and confusing sentence structures. I will help you tighten your language, streamline your structure, and offer the world your best writing possible.
I love language and want all people to enjoy their verbs, their words, their abbreviations and incantations...
When working with students I help them move past initial cliches and dig deeply into their individuated imaginations. I help them grown their ideas using divergent thinking strategies (generating multiple solutions in a short amount of time). I push and push until they find their best and most honest voice - one that expresses their most authentic thoughts in the most exquisite language possible.
