I substitute teach in the Scituate and Brockton Schools. I have tutored at English High in Boston in their Somali teen program. I am very patient, compassionate, and want my students to succeed. I have tutored English in a church ESL program. We taught basic conversational English. Tutoring, one on one, and being able to advance a student to the next grade level in reading or writing is its own reward. I am also a good listener. Students usually know what they are having difficulty doing or understanding. My job is to listen to them, carefully read their evaluations, and then come up with a plan of tutoring that will advance their reading, writing, or other skills.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have substituted in all grades, K through 6, for five years. I have helped the students that are a little behind to understand the work that they have to complete. I have given arithmetic and vocabulary tests. I have a BA in Communications and I have learned how to listen, speak, and understand.
I speak English well and I have taught English to people who speak other languages. I have also tutored students who are having difficulty in speaking English correctly. I enjoy grammar, vocabulary, and composition and essay writing.
To learn how to read, the student needs to make a commitment to read everyday. I have always loved to read, books, magazines,
newspapers, whatever I can get my hands on. My students learn that reading is not hard, it takes practice and getting familiar with words. Once you learn how to read, it will open doors for you. You might even get to like it!
All during my years in college, I maintained a 3.0 average. I prioritized my essays and reading assignments according to when they were due. Anyone that I have tutored is taught to do the most difficult and things that are due first. When I was given an essay assignment, I did the outline within 2 days.
