About Alex

I was born in Ukraine, the USSR. I studied Russian history, culture and language on an undergraduate and graduate levels in Saratov,Russia. I have a PhD in history. I taught Russian/Slavic studies since 1986 in Russia, UK, Ireland, Germany, Switzerland, Portugal. I studied humanities and education on the graduate level in Sweden, Denmark, the Netherlands, France, UK. I participated in over a dozen of international academic research and educational projects. I've completed full doctoral study program in International Higher Education at Boston College and have a PhD in Higher Education. Since 2006, I worked as a Russian Studies professor and as an Administrator of International Academic Programs at Colorado State University.

I learned in Asian, European and American academic environments and know cross-academic, cross-cultural and cross-linguistic differences first hand. I can read and comprehend most of European languages and can communicate in all Slavic languages. I studied humanities from classics to modernity in the West and in the East, so I can present and explain understanding of the world and the American history, politics and culture from different perspectives. Not only I can communicate in different languages, I also know historical and cultural backgrounds of languages, enabling me to respond to the question "why" with academic justification.

I believe that today generation of American youth is making a historical step into the era of globalization and need to know much more about the rest of the world than the generation of their parents. "Global" is getting in charge, replacing the traditional notion of "national." Knowledge of other cultures and languages is practically useful today in every profession. A businessman or a musician, a baker or a computer pro should have global perspective to be successful in today reality. I studied globalization professionally, and experienced it personally. I may open the world to you, making you a success in your future professional field, and I am willing to do so, by sharing my knowledge and experience. If you need tutoring in international studies, humanities, history, culture and/or Slavic studies and languages, you are most welcome to contact with me via Wyzant.com

I am generally available for tutoring every day. I may travel to meet a student in person but in the modern age of computer technology it could be much easier and cheaper to communicate online via Skype and email. For each personalized study program I offer a study package containing materials from around the world, not only the usual US academic materials.
I am looking forward to hear from you, and help you to become a success in your field of study and future profession.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
