I am on leave from Syracuse University in Florence, where I have been teaching art and architectural history since 1997. I have worked with students from all disciplines on introductory to advanced university courses in art history and cultural history. This and my extensive museum consulting, linking works of art and architecture to museum communities, make me excited to tutor students of any age in art, architectural, urban and cultural history.
I teach university seminars on ancient Greek cultural history and on the cultural history of the Mediterranean Basin.
I am trained as an architectural designer, and have been teaching and career coaching aspiring artists, architects, and art historians since 1994. My research is into Italian pre-modern architectural and urban history and theory, and I have published extensively both books and articles in these fields.
Whatever your tutoring needs I would work with you not only to master your material, but also to uncover your own potential to make a difference. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have my MArch and Ph.D. in Architectural History, Theory and Criticism from Princeton. I have worked as an architectural and urban designer for Eric R. Kuhn and Associates and Duany Plater-Zyberk, and have taught architecture and architectural history since 1994, at the University of Miami School of Architecture, the GSD, Syracuse University in Florence, and Università di Roma Tre. I have worked extensively with students in sketching, analytical diagramming, and portfolio preparation together with architectural concepts, theory, design, and history. Students I have worked with have attended Princeton, Yale, Harvard, Carnegie-Mellon, Syracuse and other architecture schools in the United States and Europe.
