Hello! I have been teaching for five years, one year in second grade, three in kindergarten, and now first! grade I am completed my M.Ed in Reading and hope to eventually pursue a career as a reading specialist. For now, I love working with my first grade class. While I love teaching, tutoring gives me the unique opportunity to analyze a students' strengths and weaknesses and help them progress to a level of mastery in whatever area they are working on. Working in a one-on-one setting allows for me to delve deeper into a topic or concept with the student.
I am a trained Orton-Gillingham reading tutor. This gives me the opportunity to use a variety of instructional techniques: multi-sensory activities, technology, and engaging and kinesthetic games. The Orton-Gillingham approach is a systematic and sequential method that will give your child the intensive instruction they need in the areas of phonics, spelling, handwriting, comprehension, and vocabulary.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have been teaching Kindergarten for the past three years and was an instructional aide in a second grade classroom for one year. I have much experience providing phonics, spelling, handwriting, math, and science skills. All my students leave Kindergarten reading and writing. I use many multisensory activities to make learning fun.
I have been teaching Kindergarten for three years and phonics instruction is a vital part of kindergarten skills. I have used many instruction methods to teach phonics, including, but not limited to the programs "Lively Letters" and "Wilson's Fundations". I am also an Orton Gillingham trained tutor and pull from their instruction style.

Having taught kindergarten, grade one, and grade two for the past 5 years spelling instruction is a vital part of the learning process. Learning spelling and phonics rules helps build fluency in reading and writing.
Vocabulary instruction is an integral aspect of elementary instruction and improves reading comprehension and develops stronger writing. Having taught in a diverse group of students, many who are bilingual or English language learners, vocabulary instruction is taught explicitly using the 7 steps process. I also hold an sheltered English immersion endorsement.
