About Kaitlin

Hello! I am a Boston College double graduate (bachelor's and master's) who has passion for teaching and life-long learning. This passion motivates me as a teacher in the classroom throughout the day and as a tutor when I work one-on-one with students after school hours.

I am a licensed fourth grade teacher ready to help elementary students (1-6) in all subject areas. I have worked one-on-one and with small groups when I was a Title 1 Interventionist for students in grades 3-5. I also continue to implement response-to-intervention blocks into my classroom as needed. I am comfortable with Common Core standards and its implementation in the curriculum. I enjoy finding creative ways for students to connect to content that was once difficult for them.

I am available most days after school and my rate is flexible. I can communicate with you through e-mail, text message and/or phone calls. I take pride in my frequent and updated communication with the parents of my students.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ADHD

As a fourth grade teacher, I work with multiple students in my classroom each year diagnosed with ADD/ADHD. I implement 504 accommodations and modifications in my classroom. I attend meetings with administrators, educators and parents where I provide information about the students' overall academic performance, their successes and areas of needs.

Common Core

I have been teaching in a district that uses the Common Core standards to develop the curriculum we implement to our students. I follow the standards in reading, writing and math closely and make sure my classroom lessons and activities align with the standards the students are expected to master by the end of the year.

Elementary (K-6th)

I have my Elementary (1-6) teaching license. I also am in my second year of teaching 4th grade in a public school.

Elementary Math

I am a licensed Elementary (1-6) teacher who is professionally trained to teach and implement the Common Core standards. At my school, I do not teach one specific math program but use a variety of Common Core aligned resources to ensure the best results for my students. I am comfortable with many of the different new teaching styles that are being implemented in schools across the state.

Flute

I have been playing flute for 17 years. I have been a member of many youth orchestras and wind ensembles in the Metro-New York area. I was the principal flutist in Boston College's University Wind Ensemble for three years. I have taught private flute lessons in the North Shore of Boston area for two years.

Reading

I have experience working with students who are still learning the foundations of literacy (phonics and phonemic awareness). I have used multiple programs (DRA, Reading A-Z, Explode the Code) to help students in Grades 1-5 who needed one-on-one reading instruction. In addition, I worked with preschoolers during the summer with basic decoding and letter-to-sound correspondence.
