About John

I have over ten years of tutoring and teaching experience in a variety of fields, including writing, language arts, reading comprehension, social science, and mathematics. I have a master's degree in linguistics, which is an interdisciplinary field that trains the brain in unique ways--unique ways that I can train your own or your child's brain in! Don't hesitate to check out the subjects I am qualified in. I may just have what you need to succeed!

I prefer students aged 12 and up, but will consider requests for younger students. I also tutor adults. I am a middle school math teacher during the day, so my availability works around school hours (typically 8am-4pm on weekdays).

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Ten years of tutoring high school math and college-level math courses, including pre-calculus and calculus.

Geometry

I am a certified math teacher with experience teaching all levels of high school math.

Linear Algebra

I hold a teaching certificate in Mathematics for grades 5-12, and I have completed a significant number (24) of upper-level university credits in mathematics, including Linear Algebra. I have studied modern mathematics on my own time, and can tutor students at all levels.

Logic

I have done extensive graduate study in linguistics and the logic of language, as well as study in mathematical logic. I have four years of experience tutoring logic courses at Rutgers University. I translate the logical concepts into basic idea of rational thinking that students already possess.
