About Judith

I am a graduate of the School of the Museum of Fine Arts. I have had several gallery shows in the Boston area, and continue to draw daily. I would be glad to share my portfolio of both expressive and representational works.

After working in public schools for 12 years, I am now planning to work a more flexible schedule more dedicated to my life as a working artist, making and selling both fine and utilitarian art forms. I continue to write and hope to publish articles, poetry, and essays. Additionally I am starting a new independent practice as a counselor and social worker running groups that emphasize expression, as well as per diem work, and tutoring.

My work as a school social worker has included support and counseling for students at all grade levels facing a range of challenges. This informs my tutoring skills, and provides insight into how to help build motivation, confidence, and skills in many areas.

The capacity to express oneself well in writing is an essential skill required to meet nearly all academic and professional goals. I am glad to help students grow in this area, and can provide feedback and instruction to increase your competence as a writer.

I have taught drawing and various forms of art to both adults and children. My own work is grounded in my drawing skills, using a broad array of mixed media. In teaching drawing, my emphasis is on marks and space, the basic elements of visual depictions. Whether you are drawing from life or imagination; whether you are employing your inner eye or real world observations; your artistic goals can be met by a blend of confidence and skill building. I encourage the unique authenticity that everyone has access to, as well as the steady and disciplined study of specific skills, methods, media, and strategies in drawing and in all forms of making art.

I would be glad to help you increase your drawing skills and achieve your artistic goals, whether they are academic, commercial, personal or a blend. I can also help if your goal is to gain competence as a writer, or to build your strength in reading and literature. If you would benefit from some additional support in using computer programs in your academic, creative, or professional projects, this is also an area where I can provide instruction. If you think we may be a good match to help you achieve any of your goals, please contact me to plan a conversation.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
