Ryan has been tutoring both my son and daughter for more than a year now. Last year, they were in the 12th grade and the 10th grade, respectively. This year, they are in 11th grader and a freshman in college. Ryan has been able to move from various math subjects with great ease and understanding for my kids. Even my daughter has remarked, "He is a REALLY good teacher". He is young, fresh, and fun, which my kids really responded well to.
Ryan has a public school background so he is able to know EXACTLY what to teach kids that will have a true impact on the grades. My daughter went from a 65 final grade in her prior semester without Ryan to an 81 final grade in the current semester with Ryan. My son went from a D to a B in college level math. I can't say enough about Ryan's ability to help with my kids' grades. I have used other tutors that were less expensive and got NOWHERE near the results I got with Ryan. I will use Ryan for as long as my kids continue to need help. It's the best money you will ever spend.
My daughter was having a tremendous amount of difficulty in her computer science class and was totally lost. After just one or two meetings with Ryan, she began to understand the material. She meets with Ryan frequently and he has made all the difference in her ability to digest the material and to gain confidence in this difficult class.
Her grades have improved greatly and I don't think she could have done it without his expert help and his ability to make the time for her, despite his other students and his other responsibilities. Ryan is patient, thorough, and a true professional. He's the best! I highly recommend him!
Ryan is an excellent tutor. We had such a positive experience with him. He is professional, highly qualified, very well organized, and funny. He creates a comfortable atmosphere for learning. My son would feel exhausted after class with other tutors, but after class with Ryan he was motivated and full of energy.
Ryan inserted a new confidence in my son’s own abilities. My son is a senior in high school and his acceptance into a college depends on his performance on his AP computer science exam. In order to prepare for this exam, we decided to get some additional help besides his usual school activities. We feel happy we found Ryan.
The main thing that sets Ryan apart from other tutors is that he works together with a student, leaving them very confident in their skills and knowledge after class. He uses his time wisely. I thought that my son would require a lot of lessons, but in the end, only four lessons were enough to cover all of the material. Thank you, Ryan!
We write with great enthusiasm to provide our highest recommendation of Ryan. Ryan has been working with our son teaching computer programming for nearly two years. Over this time we have come to know Ryan as an exceptional educator who has played an important part in our son’s development.
Our son is an exceptional but challenging student. Ryan has been able to unlock his inherent talent for computer programming while always maintaining a fun and engaging environment. Our son looks forward to his time with Ryan and always completes his homework in preparation for their sessions, which is no small feat. They have completed myriad projects with Ryan always successfully encouraging him to excel and try new approaches.
Ryan is personable and engaged. His commitment and dedication to our son's success is clear. We are fortunate to have him working with our family.
My son has only met with a Ryan a couple of times and I have spoken to him on the phone several times and I am very pleased. My son is being tutored in math and after a brief session my son is planning his next session because understanding was giving him confidence as well. Ryan is easy to get a hold of, understanding, great in math!! And a great match for my son. I like Ryan's overall attitude and how quickly I could tell that this is the tutor we want! My son was sick for a little while and still I spoke with Ryan, he was willing to help with adapting schedule, times, anything we needed to get my son back on track. I know anybody out there looking for a tutor would be impressed and very satisfied with Ryan. I'm just a mom, no advertising, just putting a review for those of you who are looking out there to see, Great Tutor!
My daughter felt very confident about her upcoming test. It was nice to see her not to worry this morning. Thank you, Ryan.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I am qualified to teach C since it is a simplified version of C++. I have an undergraduate degree in Computer Science, which involved classes in C, and I worked in private industry for two years, using both C and C++. In addition, I have been teaching and tutoring computer programming for the past 11 years, which keeps my skills sharp.
I have been teaching C++ at North Reading High School for 7 years. I am quite proficient at C++ considering my undergraduate degree at Harvard was Computer Science, in the C++ language, and then I worked 2 years as a C++ programmer before becoming a teacher.
At the high school where I work, I have run a chess club for about 6 years. In the last 3 years we have upgraded to a chess team where we play different schools around the area. My rating, based on some online play, might be around 1500 give or take a 100 points.
I have experience in C++ as a programmer for 2 years and in my undergraduate major. I also have experience in Java as I have been teaching it this past year to high school students. I also have experience in Pascal from my high school years.
I have an undergraduate degree from Harvard University in Computer Science.
Computer Science is the art/science of creating computer programs. There are a large number of topics, like networks, graphics, operating systems, data structures, databases, etc.
Since getting my degree from Harvard, I worked as a programmer for 2 years before becoming a math and computer programming teacher, which I have continued until today, for a total of about 9 years.
I have taken a class called Discrete Structures from the University of Massachusetts Lowell, in fact, I took the undergraduate version and the graduate version. I have a transcript from UML which I could send you if you need it. Both times taking the course I received an A.
I studied piano for several years. Also, I have performed vocally with the Merrimack Valley Players and the Hatherly Players for ten years in concerts and musical theater productions.
I have been teaching the Python language to introductory Computer Programming students at North Reading High School for about 3 years. After this time I feel I have a good grasp of the basics of the programming language. It is a good language for students who have grown past the "Scratch" stage of programming and are ready for a language that is a bit more powerful but also relatively easy to pick up (compared to Java or C)
