About Matthew

Hello!

My name is Matthew and I am a certified educator teaching high school chemistry in the state of Massachusetts.

In college, I spent 3 years working as a teaching assistant within the general and organic chemistry lectures and laboratories, providing weekly supplemental instruction. I worked as a private tutor since my time as an undergraduate starting in 2009 and have continued to do so throughout my educational and professional career. I started teaching professionally in 2011 and have taught college prep, honors, and AP chemistry classes.

I try my best to take an applied science/mathematics (for science and math classes) and problem solving route to drive learning. I try and look for a bridge between the science/math content from the classroom and how it has been used historically or applied in the real world. I have worked with students in general chemistry, organic chemistry, math (geometry, algebra, trigonometry, calculus), physics, SAT prep, MCAT prep, and GRE prep.

A general outline for a typical tutoring session.

Prior to session (1-2 days before)
1. Provide topics of interest, relevant problem sets if any
2. Student's question on topics prior to arrival
3. Calendar of relevant dates (i.e. exams, quizzes, etc...)

Session
1. Discussion of topics using relevant problems to drive understanding
2. Feedback from me and plans moving forward

I hope I can be of service, and please reach out to me if you need a tutor.

Cheers.

Matthew

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Calculus

Currently I teach high school chemistry in the state of Massachusetts and have been doing so since 2011. I started tutoring calculus in 2009 for engineering and science students. My chemistry degree required me to take math courses building a foundation in various math disciplines (calculus).

Highly recommend Matthew as a tutor!

Matthew tutored my daughter in College Physics. Not only is he well versed in the subject and prepared, but equally as important, he is an excellent teacher. Matthew is very patient in his approach, and easy to work with. He made himself available if my daughter had questions in between sessions, and would check in with her periodically. Matthew was also flexible with scheduling and very promp
