My availability is primarily on the weekend.

My aim is first and foremost to ensure you understand the concepts. My goal is to provide you with the knowledge and additional resources to proceed on future assignments without my help. I have a good deal of prior experience serving as a tutor during my time in university as both an undergraduate and graduate student. I also have a wide range of topics I can provide support for, including general academic study skills and the sciences (particularly statistics and biology). I began working as a private tutor in 2008 in both the United States and United Kingdom. I have previously provided tutoring for a wide variety of subjects and test prep and I have worked with K-12 students, college students, and adult learners. During my graduate work in in the UK I served as a tutor and teaching assistant.

My own background is primarily psychology. In 2007 I graduated from the University of Texas at Dallas (UTD), where I was a Eugene McDermott Scholar, with a BA (cum laude) in Psychology with a minor in music and a BS (magna cum laude) in Child Learning & Development with a minor in physics. In 2008 I completed my MS in Applied Cognition & Neuroscience at UTD. I then went to the University of St Andrews in Scotland for further graduate work, where I received a Masters of Research in psychology in 2009. I have recently completed my postgraduate studies in the UK, which has a focus on cognitive psychology.

I pride myself on my ability to communicate well and in an outgoing, pleasant and friendly manner. With my strong background in cognitive psychology, I utilize research findings to come up with ways to better help students understand and retain information. I also strive to quickly identify any difficulties my students had and respond with appropriate assistance. I work hard to ensure that students feel comfortable asking questions. My primary goal is always to ensure that students understand the concepts they need assistance with. In order to achieve that I will often come up with alternative explanations or assist the student to find resources that best fit their learning style.

I have provided tutoring for a number of college students, particularly in the social sciences. I am an expert with SPSS and have helped many students who have felt intimidated by the program. I particularly understand how intimidating statistics can be for social science students and I work hard to use my love of statistics to help my students better understand. I've found that the one-on-one tutoring I have provided for college students gives the extra support to help my students become confident with statistics.

I have Microsoft Office 2013 Specialist Certification for Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access and Microsoft Office 2010 Specialist Master Certification. I have assisted many students and coworkers in more efficient ways of using Excel in particular, and I would be happy to help you.

Please do not hesitate to get in touch. I want to help you gain a thorough understanding of the subject, and I am passionate in carrying out this aim. My goal is to ensure that, after we complete our lesson, you will NOT need my help on what we covered again!

Patient and understood my needs!

Melissa made sure to understand where I was in my understanding of my topic which was statistics. She helped me work through specific problems, provided breakdowns of the questions and provided me with reference material. I found the on-line platform very easy to use and Melissa utilizes the platform with proficiency! We didn't have a lot of time together but we were able to cover a lot!

Best SPSS tutor ever

Melissa is a wonderful tutor; she is devoted to making sure the person understands the material, and you can tell she is passionate about SPSS. I have had two sessions with her, but in those two sessions, I have learned more than what a semester of Quantitative Statistics has taught me. She is amazing and so patient, I wish she was my professor! If you choose Melissa to be your tutor, I promise you, you will not regret it.

Excellent!

Melissa helped me figure out how to read, understand, and "write up a story" for my Marketing Management final project with SPSS based on my survey results. I am a marketing major and a current MBA student but I am not good at SPSS. I needed someone to look at my data and figure out how can I use these data to understand the consumer for my brands and Melissa used the data collected from my surveys to better understand my results. Thank you!
