Curry College (MEd)
I am an English Language Arts teacher. I have a BA in English and Speech Communicatiom and a Masters Degree in Education. I came to the teaching profession later in life, earning my degree and teaching experience after my two sons had gone off to college. Before teaching, I worked in marketing as a catalog manager.
My favorite subject to teach is Writer's Workshop. It is very rewarding to help students find their voice and express their wonderful ideas clearly. I also enjoy helping students understand complex pieces of literature. I feel as though I am helping kids unwrap a gift as themes and characters come to life for them.
I use the six traits of writing model. Teaching the six traits: ideas, organization, word choice, fluency, voice and conventions is a proven model for understanding and success.
I believe that students will understand history when they can learn about events across curriculum. I stress understanding over memorization. There is a story in history.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
