Tutoring elementary school-aged children has always been a treat for me. Whether I am tutoring math, English, or general study skills, building up a child's confidence to do schoolwork is a priority with me. When children are supported by a kind, encouraging tutor and more clearly understand their academic subjects, they feel empowered to work even harder.

As a practicing CPA and as an "A" student over the course of my lifetime, I have discovered the most efficient and effective ways to learn subject matter and how to score well on examinations. It's not always a matter of struggling to read every word in a textbook that gets you the knowledge you need, or the "A" grade. Just like real life, it's often a matter of knowing what is required of you, and addressing those areas first and foremost. Too often, students "spin their wheels" on areas from which they will not maximally benefit. They get frustrated going around and around in circles, not understanding something. They lose their confidence, say negative things to themselves, and give up. My approach is to rebuild a student's confidence and enthusiasm for learning so that he/she will be able carry on after the tutoring is finished.

Test Preparation

COOP/HSPT,

COOP/HSPT

The Cooperative Admissions Exam (COOP) and the High School Placement Test (HSPT) are entrance exams for admission to Catholic high schools. The COOP consists of seven sections which test a student's verbal reasoning, reading, and language arts skills, as well as math skills. The HSPT is divided into five sections, and it also tests verbal and math skills. I am currently successfully tutoring students for WyzAnt in these subject areas.
ISEE,

ISEE

The Independent School Entrance Exam (ISEE), geared towards elementary school students, tests reading comprehension and math, as well as verbal and quantitative reasoning skills. The essay is not scored, and is sent only to the schools requested by the students. The purpose of the exam is to provide schools with information about the students' strengths and weaknesses in math and English, and to assess their capacities for learning academic subjects. I have previously tutored students in the lower, middle, and upper grades to achieve success in this exam.
Praxis,

Praxis

Praxis I,PPST (Pre-Professional Skills Test) evaluates individuals for entry into teacher education programs and may also be required by some states as part of their teacher licensing process. Praxis I consists of three parts: Reading, Mathematics, and Writing. Praxis II, PLT (Principles of Learning and Teaching) consists of elementary education tests and subject assessments in Science, English, Mathematics, and Social Studies for those prospective K-12 teachers of these subjects. I have successfully tutored prior students in Reading, Mathematics, and Writing. Thus, I am quite comfortable tutoring Praxis I and the English and Math sections of Praxis II.
TEAS,

TEAS

The TEAS (Test of Essential Academic Skills) exam is a requirement by certain schools for admission into their nursing programs. The TEAS exam consists of four sections: Reading, Mathematics, Science, and English and Language Usage. I have successfully tutored prior students in all of these subject areas.

Very patient

Marion L. really helped me with some math problems and really went step by step explaining them and how to get the answer. She was helpful with vocabulary and giving example to the vocabulary. She is very patient and understanding. Really recommended.

Excellent, well rounded working sessions

Marion has been great with my 14 year old son. Unfortunately our town school system is not great, and he and I don't work well together :) Marion has been great working with him getting ready for the HSTP exam, wished I had hired her sooner! We will be back after the exams, to get him ready for his new high school

Knowledgeable, timely, responsive, intelligent

Marion was responsive at all times. She was always early to every session. My daughter likes Marion so much because she concentrates on her the entire time, not her phone or anything else. SAT score rose from the tutoring sessions. I highly suggest Marion as a tutor.

Able to engage my difficult to engage child!

My daughter is very resistant to new people and she felt comfortable with Marion from day one. My daughter has learning challenges and Marion dealt with them perfectly. She was not judgmental and extremely patient with my daughter. Although the tutoring was for the ISEE exam we saw a definite improvement in schoolwork as well. In addition to her excellent tutoring skills, Marion is also very punctual and communicative. Although ISEE time is here, we are already planing to continue tutoring with Marion for my daughter's class work!

Patient and Helpful

This was our first lesson with Marion. My daughter needed some tutoring for the upcoming SAT test. Marion was able to put her at ease and give her some tips to help her relax. We look forward to our next lesson with Marion

Excellent tutor!

Marion is very professional, knowledgeable on subject matter, patient and positive. We r so lucky to have her tutor my son for ISEE! We had our first lesson today and she was above and beyond our expectations as a tutor, especially since this is the first time we hired a tutor and did not know what to expect.
