In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have had six years of teaching experience to inner, urban-city students. During those years, I have had the opportunity to teach Reading, Math, Science and Social Studies. I have also had the experience of conducting assessments, such as the DIBELS and the Grade Test; and deliver Read Naturally to students who are struggling in their comprehension.
I have also had the chance to tutor/review students from Grades 1-7 in English and Math. I am much knowledgeable of the concepts in elementary Math and English; and also teach the skills needed for a student to perform satisfactorily.
Throughout my years of teaching elementary students, I have helped students pass their ISEE, and thus, enable them to be accepted to Boston Latin School. I also have helped students improve their comprehension level, including solving problem solving in math. Best of all, I have helped students gain confidence to learn after making mistakes after mistakes; or feeling like a failure.
