I've been a teacher, tutor and specialist in reading and learning disabilities for almost 30 years now, and I am still celebrating the joys of helping people learn to read and write. I have taught many subjects to all ages - K through adult students. I do enjoy school - age children, who are so very excited when the world of literacy is opened to them at last.
I received my Ed.D ( doctorate) from Harvard University's Graduate School of Education in 1999. My specialty was Reading, Language, and Learning Disabilities. I have experience teaching students with no learning problems, as well as those with mild, moderate and severe learning disabilities. I am a very talented diagnostician, who has helped countless families learn the nature of their child's learning difficulties. I am currently a licensed School Psychologist in Massachusetts, and have extensive experience with administering and interpreting educational and psychological testing.
Call on me to help you, your teen, or your young child strengthen their language and literacy skills. You will see a difference.

Dr. L. was so knowledgeable about the testing my son had completed and was able to decode the results and form a game plan with some personal input from myself. She is gentle and patient and has my son engaged in activities, whereas I am unable to interest him. My son is quite shy and has no trouble spending an hour with Dana completing tasks and lessons.
Dana was a reliable tutor. She was well organized and prepared for each session. She had a patient and calm demeanor and was able to help our son analyze literature and write successful essays. We highly recommend her!
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have studied ADHD/ADD extensively, throughout graduate school at Harvard, at conferences, during internships. I have had hands-on experience working with ADHD children and adults through my work with psychologists over the last 30 years. I have given many lectures on the subject, and at one point I was the featured speaker on ADHD at Umass Medical School's teaching hospital in Worcester, MA. I have experience with the tests and questionnaires used to diagnose ADHD, in addition to a wealth of knowledge about the medications that are often used to treat ADHD. I would consider myself one of this area's experts in this subject.
I have extensive experience in teaching dyslexic people, one-on-one and in small groups, and adults as well as children. I trained at Harvard University and at the Carroll School in instructional methods for dyslexics. I have attended many conferences n the subject, as well. I use a phonics-based,structured, individualized approach to teach dyslexics to read and spell. I have had consistent excellent results with this method and with my teaching, with approximately 30 years' experience.
I have both a Master's and a Doctoral degree in education. I have been a teacher, tutor and educational consultant for over 20 years. Most of my work has been with elementary school children, helping them to learn to read, write and spell, learn study skills, and helping parents and teachers with educational planning for the children. I really enjoy working with grades K - 6. When teaching reading, I employ a phonics-based method, having used the Orton- Gillingham and Wilson methods of instruction. I have found this approach to be very successful.
Tutored students in English, reading, writing, and spelling, 1990 to present.
Taught classes in Writing, Composition, Critical Reading and Literature, Middlesex Comunity College, Cushing Academy, Mt. Wachusett Community College.
Master's Degree from Harvard University School of Education, 1984; Doctorate in Education, Harvard University, 1999.
I have employed phonics to teach reading and spelling throughout my career as an educator. My research and my experience both demonstrate that phonics is the best approach for reading instruction, especially for student who are struggling or dyslexic. I trained at Harvard Universiy and at the Carroll School in phonics instruction. and in the Orton-Gillingham approach in particular. I use a multi-sensory approach to address all learning styles, and augment the lessons with games and interesting reading to keep the learning fun.
I hold both a Master's and a Doctoral Degree in Education from Harvard University. I have 30 years' experience teaching children and adults to read, write and spell, including children with learning difficulties. I use a phonics-based approach and have had been able to help all children with this approach. I look forward to working with WyzAnt students.
