I am currently a Special Education teacher on Cape Cod, Massachusetts. I have a license to teach secondary education in the state of Massachusetts, and I am currently enrolled as a graduate student at Bridgewater State Universities Special Education program. As an undergraduate, I received a degree in History, and minored in both Special Education Inclusive Practices and Secondary Education. Before my work as a special educator, I was a therapeutic mentor for at risk youths, and teenagers with learning and behavioral disabilities. My experience as both a teacher in a special education setting, along with my experience as a social worker, has allowed me the opportunity to provide meaningful support and enrichment for students in the areas of English Language Arts, Math, Reading (phonics & fluency) and Social Sciences such as History & Geography.
I believe that additional enrichment for students minimizes educational regression, and allows students to establish excellent educational skills, organization and study habits. From using direct instruction, to thematic based learning, I believe that every student deserves an opportunity to obtain an educational experience that meets their learning style and needs. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
