Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Elementary (K-6th)

I have been teaching elementary students for 15 years. I was a special education resource teacher for 12 years and am now a full-time Wilson Reading teacher. I have two Masters degrees in education. I am aware of, and fluent in, elementary curriculum.

Phonics

I am a Level I Wilson certified teacher and in the middle of becoming a Level II Wilson Certified teacher. I have 3 years of experience teaching students from third grade to 8th grade the rules of the English language using phonics rules from Wilson.

Reading

I have been teaching elementary students for 15 years. I was a special education resource teacher for 12 years and am now a full-time Wilson Reading teacher. I have two Masters degrees in education. I am aware of, and fluent in, elementary curriculum.

Study Skills

Study skills can be very difficult for students. I have worked with students for 15 years on study skills. Students need to know how to organize themselves in order to be successful at studying. Students need to have a timeline and know what exactly to study and when. Students need to do three things when studying: read the material, write the material, then interact with the material (asking a peer or parent to help). These things help students tremendously when they are learning to study.
