I am a two-time Teacher of the Year and enthusiastic instructor who loves helping students learn. I have over 30 years of teaching experience at the middle school, high school, and college level. I have sponsored and coached state champions in accounting, computer applications, and computer science. I have coached regional winners in spelling. My elementary tutoring students have received state recognition in reading and math and national recognition in writing. I love to motivate and challenge my students to reach higher.
I am published and very creative and innovative. I make my lessons fun and real for the students so that they can relate to the material.
My students are all ages. I enjoy working with elementary students. My elementary students have all made great improvements in their grades and on their standardized test. I have motivational math, reading, and writing materials on hand for second, third, fourth, fifth, and sixth graders. I accepted tutoring a first grader who could not read and was acting out in class. After a few lessons, he was pronouncing words and in a few short weeks, his whole self esteem had changed. He was reading and it was so exciting. I have worked each week with reading, vocabulary, and essay writing to groups of third and fourth graders. I have worked one on one with several fifth, sixth, and seventh grade students in math, reading, and science who were making C's and are now A-B Honor Roll students.
Last summer, I conducted workshops in narrative and expository writing for grades 4-6 and 7-9. I developed the narrative curriculum and activities for the students. It was a huge success.
My high school and college students have received assistance with accounting, reading comprehension, essay writing, math, and computer programs. Accounting is one of my passions, and I make it a subject easy for students to understand. I have taken and passed the MTEL reading, writing, and business tests for Massachusetts.
I enjoy working with adults who need current computer and accounting skills for the marketplace. I have taught Accounting, Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint to adults and helped with resume writing and interview skills. I currently teach Communications for Dean College in Franklin. I am open to tutoring all ages and have a passion for teaching and helping others succeed. I am a two-time Teacher of the Year and enthusiastic instructor who loves helping students learn. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
