SUNY College of Environmental Science & Forestry (Paper Engineering)
I am passionate about science and mathematics, and organic chemistry in particular. I also understand what it's like to struggle with these subjects, as I used to believe I wasn't capable of being successful at math or science. I then discovered the thrill of excelling at something that I thought was "too hard for me", and I graduated college with a degree in engineering and a minor in chemistry. In hindsight, there is no such thing as "too hard", and with the right guidance and confidence, I believe any student can succeed if they are willing to put in the work. Another discovery I made as a student was a love for teaching, and I am excited to help you succeed!
I have two years of experience tutoring organic chemistry at the undergraduate level, including one semester as a teaching assistant. I have taken several graduate-level organic chemistry classes as well, in case you are a graduate student looking for help. I have also tutored chemical engineering topics, including mass and energy balances, differential equations, fluid mechanics, transport phenomena, etc.
I am generally available on weeknights after 5 pm. Contact me if you need help with any of these subjects, and I will do my best to help you achieve your goals. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have a B.S. in Paper Engineering, which is a branch of chemical engineering related to the industrial manufacture of pulp and paper from cellulose feedstocks. I have tutored certain subjects within my college major including Mass & Energy balances, thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, and transport phenomena. In addition, I am currently employed as a process engineer and must use my knowledge of these subjects on a daily basis.
In addition to taking the required organic chemistry classes to receive my engineering degree (organic chemistry 1 and 2, organic chemistry lab 1 and 2) I graduated with a minor in chemistry, including the following classes:
-organic chemistry 3
-advanced organic chemistry
I also tutored organic chemistry for two years at my university, served as a teaching assistant in organic chemistry 2, and worked as a researcher in a synthetic organic chemistry lab for 3 years.
