About Theresa

I am a New Hampshire certified elementary teacher who has worked with typical and special education students for the past 12 years. I provide individualized instruction so that students who may be having difficulty realize early success. I specialize in reading and writing instruction, while also providing tutoring in math and study skills. To ensure that students have a quiet and comfortable space to work in, I offer tutoring at the local library or your home. Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

I earned an M. Ed. from Southern New Hampshire University in 2011, and became certified in elementary education from the state of New Hampshire in June, 2011. I worked as a long term substitute during the 2011-2012 school year at three New Hampshire elementary schools. I have worked as a tutor at an elementary school in Concord, MA since 10/2012.

Elementary Math

In my studies for my graduate degree, I learned current methodology for teaching math to elementary students. In my work as a tutor for the last three years, I have been responsible for teaching a third grade and a fourth grade math group throughout the year.

Phonics

From 2002 - 2008, I worked as a reading assistant at an elementary school, teaching reading (phonics, decoding, comprehension, fluency) to students in grades one through five. I earned an M. Ed. from Southern New Hampshire University in 2011, and became certified in elementary education from the state of New Hampshire in June, 2011. I worked as a long term substitute during the 2011-2012 school year at three New Hampshire elementary schools. I have worked as a tutor at an elementary school in Concord, MA since 10/2012.

Reading

From XXXX -XXXX, I worked as a reading assistant for elementary students. From 2012 - present, I have worked as a special education tutor with elementary students individually and in small groups in the areas of decoding, encoding, fluency, and comprehension.

Special Needs

For most of my career in education, I have worked with students who have a range of special needs, including add/adhd, autism and Aspergers, and learning disabilities. From 2002 - 2008, I worked as a reading assistant at an elementary school, teaching reading (phonics, decoding, comprehension, fluency) to students in grades one through five. From 2008 - 2011 I worked at a middle school, where I worked with students with learning disabilities and students on the autism spectrum, teaching study skills, subject matter, and appropriate behavior. Spelling

I have a B.A. In English and a Master's degree in Education. Part of my coursework included how to teach reading and spelling. In addition, I worked as a reading assistant for six years and have worked as a special education tutor for the past four years, where I teach students reading and spelling.

Study Skills

From 2008 - 2011 I worked at Hampstead Middle School as a paraeducator, where I helped students improve their study skills. I earned an M. Ed. from Southern New Hampshire University in 2011, and became certified in elementary education from the state of NH in June, 2011. I worked as a long term substitute during the 2011-2012 school year at three NH elementary schools. I have worked as a tutor at the Alcott Elementary School in Concord, MA since 10/2012.
