As a retired, earnest middle school teacher with twenty-seven years of language arts expertise, I have a strong sense of expectations for each child, and I have worked to attain an attentiveness to individual needs to encourage development of reading and writing skills. As a member of a teaching team in my former school, I always worked well with my colleagues to foster continuous improvement in the creation of curriculum objectives.
Working on the Race to the Top Initiative for my district gave me a firm foundation in the Common Core Standards, and an understanding of curriculum development that will meet these objectives. Working within these guidelines I have developed adjunct materials to garner student interest. Developing Readers' Theater plays to allow students to act out difficult reading selections, I have seen students acquire a greater understanding of assigned short story selections, novels and MCAS passages. Last year I tutored fifth and sixth grade students of all learning abilities at a local middle school. Please contact me and let me know how I could help you with your assignments and projects. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
