I will help my students learn how to solve problems, not just memorize facts and figures. Starting with an assessment of your current strengths and areas for improvement, I will put together a plan to improve your academic performance in the physical sciences or mathematics. My goal is to see you reach a personal "Aha! moment" during each session.
I have spent eleven years teaching Chemistry, Mathematics, and Physics (including Calculus-based AP Physics) to high school students. I have also spent six summers teaching enrichment courses in Algebra, Calculus, Chemistry, and Physics. I hold MA teaching licenses in Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry. I also teach Android APP Development and Robotics.
My undergraduate degree from MIT is in Physics, and I have my M. Ed. from AIC. I will help my students learn how to solve problems, not just memorize facts and figures. Dan helped our son see a different way to look at problems and solve. Flexible in scheduling and accommodating. He was knowledgeable in the subject matter and patient in his teaching.
Dan has helped our son a great deal. This was especially true with the end of term review ahead of the exam. He has really helped get the foundations of physics right.
Thank you Dan for your summaries after each lesson. That helps me to know what Alexandra is working on, and she said your explanations are making a big difference in her classes. Thank you.
Dan is able to tutor in more than one subject. With some warning he can help with pre calculus or AP Chem.
My daughter had worked with a couple of other tutors, but didn't find their style beneficial to her understanding the material. When she met with Dan and worked with him, it finally clicked and she gave the green light to continue working with him.
We really enjoyed Dan as a tutor for my son. My son goes to a prep school and is in Honors Chemistry. We used Dan for 6 hours in prep for his year end final, which we understood to be a killer exam. Dan laid out a well organized plan and went through the topics in great detail. Even though my son was not struggling in the class, the additional insight and help was well worth the investment. In fact, we just received my son's final grade and he received a 92 on his final.
We would definitely use WyzAnt again in the future.
My son has had a fair amount of difficulty in Geometry. Dan has a talent for explaining the material so that my son grasps it.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I took all of the available undergraduate Astronomy and AstroPhysics courses at MIT.
I have a BS in Physics and taught high school Chemistry full-time for four years.
I have an Initial License in Mathematics. I also taught Geometry for one year.
I have a BS in Physics from MIT and taught high school physics full-time for 6 years.
