I believe in engaging students with hands on activities. I used creative drama in my reading lessons, math games to learn facts, and lots of writing across the curriculum. I have a strong background in children's literature and used that in helping the students create their own stories. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I taught grades 2 and 3 (all subjects) for 35 years. I was a math consultant for the Everyday Math Company and presented Math workshops for teachers. I was a member of the Whole Language Teachers' Association and presented Literature based workshops for teachers. I now work for an Energy Company presenting Science activities for students.
