I am a fully-certified elementary teacher, interested in expanding my reach and services to students who need additional assistance in all subjects! I currently teach 3rd grade in East Providence, Rhode Island, and am also elementary certified in MA. My professional interests and goals are in differentiated learning strategies; project-based learning; and blended learning methods. I believe all children can learn, but just like snowflakes - no two children are created equally. Helping a child reach his/her full potential requires assessing and understanding a child's learning needs, styles, and interests; understanding the objectives of the content and skills to be taught; and trying out various best-practice methods and strategies with that child. Continuous assessment of learning and understanding is key! I make this my foremost mission as a professional educator, both in the classroom and outside of it.
I have high expectations for all students. Easy-going and patient by nature, I find working with elementary-aged students to be wonderfully fulfilling. Teaching is my authentic passion. Please feel free to contact me for any of your child's tutoring needs! Tutoring services for multiple students in a session ($20 per student after the $45 for an initial student).
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I am fully certified in Elementary Education, grades 1 - 6. I have my teaching certification from University of Rhode Island, and will be receiving my MA in Education in December 2014. I currently teacher 3rd grade in East Providence, RI. I am also in the processing being certified in MA.
As a 3rd grade teacher, handwriting is a foundational skill that I teach to all students. As a teacher, I have had a student with an IEP that dictated additional help for handwriting by the resource teacher, with who I collaborated. I also have experience in teaching handwriting skills to 1st grade students, as my student teaching was completed in a 1st grade classroom.
I am fully-certified in Elementary Education in RI (Grades 1 - 6), and am in the process of applying for certification in MA. As part of my MA certification, I took and passed the Reading MTEL, which included content on the teaching of Phonics. Additionally, I completed an in-depth Foundations of Reading course during my graduate studies at URI, which included research and field experience with phonics assessments and teaching methods.
As a graduate student at URI (from August 2010 to December 2014), I was hired as summer graduate assistant within the Academic Enhancement Center in the summer of 2012 to evaluate incoming students who were part of the Talent Development Program (financial assistance and other academic resources open to low-income urban students). As an assistant, I made observations and worked with other graduate students in developing workshops and materials, specifically for students in the TDP, for the fall semester. Two of the workshops that I helped to create included a Test Anxiety workshop, as well as a Test Strategy workshop (which incorporated study skills based on best practices, sourced through peer-reviewed studies).
