I am currently a middle school Math teacher in a public school. I have been teaching middle school math for the past 7 years and love my job. I also love to help students and tutor on the side. I want all students to feel confident in math. Even though I was a math major in college I like to only tutor math from elementary school up to Geometry or Algebra 2 in high school. Although I know I could do more complicated math, middle school math and algebra are what I love to tutor in.
I am very responsible and am always on time for things. I am also very positive and friendly and will be a great positive tutor for your child. Carolynne had been excellent with my daughter who is struggling with prealgebra. She is able to explain the basic concepts in a way that my daughter can understand and also retain. Carolynne has also been very flexible and easy to reach and book tutoring times. My daughter was comfortable with Carolynne from their first meeting! Highly recommend
I can't recommend Carolynne highly enough. She's extraordinary in every way. Patient, great expertise in subject matter, kind, compassionate, creative, and results oriented. She really understands the student and finds a way to reach them, engage them, even when the student has learning disabilities and is resistant to receiving help. My daughter had a D- in math before she worked with Carolynne. Now she has a B+! Carolynne is also teaching her how to study for final exams, so my daughter is heading into finals with confidence and no anxiety. What an amazing transformation! Carolynne provides the support she needs and the encouragement to believe she can succeed in a subject where there has only been failure and frustration in previous years. Carolynne is also coaching her to become more proactive and independent - take responsibility for getting homework done without Mom's constant reminders (nagging).
Do yourself and your student a huge favor - work with Carolynne. Every student should be lucky enough to have a teacher/tutor like her.
Carolynne was a very effective tutor. My son was struggling with Pre-Algebra at an accelerated school. She was very patient, creative, and took extra time to explain when he didn't understand a concept. She always made sure he was ready for tests, and reviewed the results with him to make sure he understood everything before moving onto the next section. Within a three week time period his grades improved by one letter grade and his confidence level soared. He no longer felt like he was bad at math. I would highly recommend Carolynne as a math tutor to anyone who is struggling with math. She really understands middle school students.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have been teaching middle school math for the past 7 years. I believe I am qualified to teach study skills because I am very good about helping students to find a way they study and learn best. I like to help students make flashcards to help study vocabulary, math facts, and many subjects. I like to help students organize and highlight the key important papers and concepts to know.
