My name is Andrew. As an undergraduate, I studied philosophy and completed an interdisciplinary program on global conflict resolution that combined history, sociology, nonprofit administration and political science. The program was very writing and research intensive and also gave me the opportunity to teach conflict resolution in an after-school program in a Baltimore public school for a year. After finishing my undergraduate studies, I gained editorial and research experience in the job market but ultimately returned to graduate school, where I completed a master's in western classics. I now intend to get my doctorate in ancient philosophy.

After working as a tutor for a year with the Simon Scholars Program, I now hope to support students studying history, literature, philosophy and the social sciences by providing a space for them to ask questions, debate ideas, and rigorously develop their written arguments. I am happy to help with research papers, test preparation, and presentations. I welcome any and all feedback on how to improve my tutoring approaches and want the process to be as collaborative as possible. I believe everyone has their own learning style and their own unique academic needs. I aim to meet these needs as best I can!

Anthropology,

Anthropology

I have completed anthropological field research in Brazil through the School of International Training, wherein I observed indigenous and afro-brazilian communities. I completed reports and presentations on afro-brazilian identity as part of this program. I spent months in this context observing afro-brazilian culture and studying the Portuguese language. I based my research off of interviews and firsthand observation.
Bible Studies,

Bible Studies

I am a religious Jew who has spent the last two years studying torah with a Rabbi in Santa Fe, New Mexico. Simultaneously, I have been working on a classics and great books MA program which required students to read both the old and new testaments. I have also studied Augustine, Aquinas, Maimonides, Anselm, and many authors in the Jewish and Christian traditions.
Classics,

Classics

I have just completed an interdisciplinary degree in which I studied Aristotle, Plato, Herodotus, Heraclitus, Homer, Euclid, Tacitus, Thucydides, Augustine, Maimonides and other ancient authors within a socratic seminar context. While I am not a classicists who can effortlessly read Greek and Latin, I did study some ancient Greek, and translated some material from the language. I completed research projects and oral exams on Plato, Aristotle, Heraclitus, and Thucydides. I was quite successful in the program and fully intent to pursue further study in this field as it is my passion.
Religion,

Religion

I am a religious Jew with experience in rabbinic studies and some familiarity with Greek and Hebrew. At the MA level I completed coursework on both the old and new testaments and also studied Maimonides, Augustine, Aquinas, Plato, Avicenna and many other figures in theology and philosophy of religion. As an undergraduate, I took courses in Buddhist thought, so I have some familiarity with eastern religious traditions as well.
Sociology,

Sociology

I read sociological studies on race, class and gender as an undergraduate student at Goucher College. Also as an undergraduate, I had the opportunity to perform research abroad with the School of International Training in Brazil. The research was very anthropological in that it often focused on indigenous culture, but was also sociological because we documented some of the many obstacles and injustices faced by indigenous and afro-brazilians in their society.
