About Susan

I have experience teaching mathematics in the Missouri and Massachusetts public schools from 7th through 12th grade, at all levels - as well as at Greenfield Community College.

You may be seeking tutoring to learn and apply math concepts for very many reasons. Whether those reasons have to do with catching up from absence in school, learning better one-on-one, or being presented with an alternative explanation from that of your primary teacher, I can help in any and all of those ways.

Though math can be intimidating to many people because there is usually only one correct final answer, the good news is that there are plenty of pathways to arrive at that correct answer. That is, many explanations, methodologies, examples to use, illustrations to back up your thinking. You really can trust math to train your mind to think creatively (and logically and rationally). There is no magic if you truly understand the mechanics behind what reveals the solutions.

Other good news is that math is about "real life." All those word problems? They are the proof of the pudding ... math problems are everywhere, incredibly useful to your thinking abilities and to your understanding of subjects such as finance/banking, statistics, physics, economics, real estate, stock market, architecture, engineering, etc ...

Math is a gateway to so many fields of study and practice in real life. I look forward to guiding you through the gate with patience and a deep belief that everyone can understand math.

I have ten years of classroom teaching experience combined with tutoring. I have tutored a wide range of student ages, from 7th grade middle school students to retired workers reentering the employment force.

I look forward to meeting with new students. I can work with you online, at a local library, or at other quiet public locations which have a table and chairs for us.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
