I'm Oliver! I graduated from Yale college in 2017 with a BA in Socio-cultural Anthropology. I have been tutoring since high school, where I was a peer tutor in Latin, Math, and Biology. I find that the most important aspect of tutoring is giving the student the confidence and the skills to work through problems on their own and come up with a logical conclusion. My goal is to practice thinking through a problem so that the student can eventually do it on their own!
Much of a student's success will depend on their diligence and ability to practice the material they are trying to learn. While weekly tutoring can provide that extra boost of encouragement and adjustment that a student needs, there is no substitute for daily practice!
I enjoy tutoring because I want my students to feel confident, achieve their academic goals, and develop a positive relationship with the process of learning - as something that can be joyful and rewarding.
If students are interested, I find that beginning each session with a short breathing meditation can be very helpful in remaining focused, centered, and grounded. It can also decrease anxiety and teach students that test taking can be less stressful through mindful practices.
I have several years of experience teaching SAT Math and Reading, AP Latin, Math from Pre-Algebra through AP Calculus, and History.
