I became a teacher and a tutor because I love to learn and I wanted to make a difference in the lives of children. As a special education teacher for 10 plus years, I have had the chance to help students learn at their own pace and realize their potential to achieve success in school. Given direct instruction, dedication, and practice, students will see that hard work can pay off.
I specialize in teaching/remediation in the areas of elementary math, reading comprehension, and multi-sensory reading and spelling. My goal for each tutoring session is to ensure that the student is challenged but not overwhelmed. Periodic assessments will be administered to check understanding and track progress. Homework may be assigned at the end of each session.Progress reports will be shared with parents/care givers on a consistent basis.
I am flexible with my time but do ask that if you need to cancel a session that you let me know 24 hours in advance via email and or phone. However, being a mother I realize that things come up. I will do my best to reschedule sessions. To ensure that students have a study space that works best I am happy to travel to a location that is convenient for the student and their family.
I look forward to hearing from you and helping your child achieve success today! I became a teacher and a tutor because I love to learn and I wanted to make a difference in the lives of children. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have taught in several school districts and have years of experience teaching/tutoring with the Everyday Math program. I am also familiar with other math programs, such as Singapore Math and Touch Math.
I have many years of experience teaching and tutoring reading. I have used programs such as Reading Street, My Sidewalks, and readers and writers workshop.
I love spelling and am an excellent speller. When tutoring, I aim to teach specific tricks and strategies to help the students become better spellers. I also focus on phonetics and spelling rules and patterns.
