About Megan

My passion in life is helping students learn to love learning. As an elementary school teacher I want to provide students with many opportunities to become successful in and out of the classroom. Going from a classroom of 20+ students to an individual student makes the learning process very enjoyable. I love that when tutoring you are able to be creative for that child's needs and reach them in a way they may not be able to in a classroom.

I like to make my math lessons engaging and creative while having students think deeply about what they are really doing. I always start at the basics and work from there. I always look to see if my students have a strong foundation of math skills to build on.

During my undergraduate years I was a reading concentration and was able to learn the foundational skills of how to help struggling readers. Now that I am getting my master's in Special Education I am able to further learn and practice these skills.

I have worked with the Common Core standards for the last 2 years of my career extensively. I have been working and researching on the best ways to help my students be successful with the standards.

I am a Massachusetts licensed teacher in grades 1-6 and will be Special Education certified in Pre K- 8 June 2017.

Phonics is the foundation of reading. I have studied the teaching of phonics in my undergraduate and my graduate studies and I have implemented many of the strategies and skills I have learned successfully in the classroom.

I have a flexible schedule and would love to here from you to see how I can best meet your needs. Contact me to learn more about my experience and my schedule.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Common Core

I have taught the Common Core standards in the classroom for the last two years. In my undergraduate and graduate courses we have looked directly at what the standards and determined their purpose. The Common Core standards are looking for students to conceptual understand what they are learning.
