Hi, my name is Allison and I am licensed teacher in elementary education. I have taught first grade, third grade, and this year I taught second grade. I started my career a little late because I was a stay at home Mom for 12 years. During that time, I was a substitute teacher in all grades from Kindergarten through Eighth grade. I went back to school and got a teaching license in elementary education. I feel as though I am doing my dream job!
This fall I will be going back to school to finish my Masters degree. I am available to tutor your child this summer, as well as during the school year. I like to make learning fun, especially in the summer, and feel that when learning can be connected to something the student already knows the battle is half over.
I am flexible and available and would welcome the opportunity to help your child.
I am very familiar with the Common Core standards and have successfully taught students in this subject for 3 years.
I believe that handwriting and spelling are becoming squeezed out of our curriculum. I have high expectations for my students and insist that "neatness counts!"
I have used the Wilson method of teaching phonics and know that routine and practice works.
I would love the chance to help your child learn this summer and get them ready for September. Please contact me so we can meet and set up a schedule. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have been teaching elementary grades for 3 years. I have taught grades 1, 2, and 3. I have also raised 2 of my own children who are now in high school. I have taken and passed the required tests and received a license to teach at the elementary level.
Handwriting is a subject that needs more attention and instruction. I was always taught that "neatness counts" and I teach my students the same thing. In order for our work to be correct or incorrect, it first needs to be legible. I have high expectations of my students when it comes to handwriting. When they see the importance of it, they are more apt to try harder in this area.
In grades 1-3, phonics instruction is a daily routine. Children need to be taught the rules and the sounds of the letters in order to blend them together to make words. Once they have mastered the sounds, the sounds form words and then students are reading. It's is process that takes time and practice.
