About Asya

I am a Special Education teacher with over 20 years' experience teaching reading, writing and organization to elementary, middle and high school students. Among my areas of expertise are teaching decoding and fluency to reluctant readers (Wilson Reading Program certified), reading comprehension and vocabulary (Reader's Workshop, Notice and Note, and other programs and methods), organization and purpose in writing (EmPower for Expositiry writing, Writer's Workshop and other techniques), organization of school work and executive functioning skills (leading techniques in the field). Additionally, I work with families to help navigate the realm of schooling and special education process, as well as consult to parents about shaping and enhancing students' work habits and their academic progress. I have a Master's Degree in Moderate Special Needs from Simmons College.
I'm certified in the Wilson Reading Program levels I and II (Oxford, MA). I have 11 years of experience teaching students with special needs, including: teaching students with severe and moderate reading disabilities, including those with a medical diagnosis of dyslexia; successful remediation of reading difficulties as evidenced by students' school placement
