About Yoko

I am currently studying Piano Performance at the New England Conservatory of Music. I have performed locally as well as in Carnegie Hall of NY, Boston, Vienna, Budapest, and Japan among others. I have been teaching since 2012 and mostly work with young beginners. Outside of standard private piano lessons, I have accompanied students working towards competitions, taught private music theory and solfege lessons, and mentored students' practicing.

I love teaching because it is a two-way experience. When I share my love for music and help expand students' musical language, I also learn a lot about music and the different ways people experience music. Instead of a rigid curriculum, I assess the students' capabilities and interests and try to work in a way that is both enjoyable and efficient.

I have a quiet, 2-piano studio at home, and I find that students are more focused when I teach outside of their homes. However, if that is not a possibility, I am flexible with the location of the lessons.

Please feel free to contact me for further information or a trial lesson. I look forward to hearing from you!

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Music Theory

I have taken private theory from a young age as well as theory classes at the NEC Preparatory school and college level theory at the New England Conservatory. I have taught many young students beginning theory as well as college level theory, and am very fluent in music theory. I am a pianist, so I use the keyboard to teach theory, but I have taught other instrumentalists as well.

Piano

I am currently a piano performance major at the New England Conservatory of Music. I have played piano for 17 years and have taught for 4 years. My past students include beginners, age 4-9, who either had no previous experience playing piano or had played a couple years.
