Carleton College (Film Studies)
In 2014 I graduated magna cum laude from Carleton College in Minnesota with a BA in cinema and media studies. I have experience writing and editing grant proposals, both for a documentary production company and for myself. I began tutoring as well after I graduated, and I have over a dozen clients in test prep tutoring. Each student is different and I am a big believer in adapting sessions to the student's individual learning style, but the goal is always the same: give the student the skills and confidence that will allow them to be successful whe they encounter problems that they haven't seen before. I'm great if you need help with your writing, math or verbal test preparation, or if you want to hear someone extol the values of a liberal arts education! I believe that writing isn't a science, but it's pretty close, and that the SAT and the GRE are codes that can be broken.
SAT MATH: I can condense the SAT math section into a few basic precepts that you'll approach the test with. Once you have those mastered, I can help you crack the more difficult SAT problems until you're doing them as quickly as you were doing the easy problems before the course!
SAT READING+WRITING: Helping students with their writing is natural for me because it is an extension of my professional work in writing and editing grant proposals. On top of that, we'll go over a few strategies that will increase your speed and confidence in approaching Reading and Writing based questions.
GRADUATE ADMISSIONS TEST PREP (GRE): I scored a 333 on my GRE, and you can too by taking my course based on actual test material and practice problems produced by the company that makes the test. Feel free to get in touch with any questions, or if you want to inquire to see when I can schedule a session. I know how hectic test prep can get, so I promise to get back to you promptly with answers and scheduling plans. Thanks for getting in touch! I appreciate any and all inquiries. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
