In order to help you make the important decision concerning a tutor, let me give you
a brief introduction:

I have taught physics (from the college/honors levels to the AP levels (Mechanics/Electricity & Magnetism Level "C" with calculus and Level "B" without calculus) and mathematics (algebra 2; pre-calculus; calculus: differential/integral and multivariable). I have had forty-two years of teaching experience. I retired last June from a High School, and currently am tutoring students from China who wish to attend college/university here in the United States. I also am tutoring several students in AP Physics, as well as students taking Honors Physics. During my forty-two year academic career, students of my Honors 1 Physics classes have averaged 732 on the SATII Physics examination. I have, during my career, been actively involved with the United States Physics Team, which competes internationally representing our country. Some of my students having been on that team. Many more have reached the semi-final stage of that competition.

I have, over the years, also tutored many college students in various physics courses in which they were enrolled. These have included college students from Boston University, Northeastern University, and M.I.T. in the very traditional first four courses which include such topics as mechanics, electricity and magnetism, optics, thermodynamics, wave motion and modern physics.

Because my undergraduate degree is in physics and mathematics and my graduate degree is in physics with extensive course work in education, I am passionate about these subjects and trying to help students improve his/her achievement in these areas. I am also able to tutor various examination preparations, including the SATII Physics, SAT I and II Mathematics, the AP Physics "B" Examintion, the AP Physics "C" Examination (Mechanics and/or Electricity/Magnetism), the AP Calculus Levels "AB" and "BC", the MCAT (physics sections only) and the GRE.

I enjoy the challenges which tutoring brings, and feel confident that I am able to adjust my methods and techniques so that virtually all students will benefit from a tutoring experience with me. If you feel that I can be of assistance to you in improving your achievement or preparing to ace a standardized test in physics or mathematics, please do not hesitate to inquire.

Thank you for your consideration. I look forward to hearing from you.

MCAT

The MCAT is 1/3 biology, 1/3 chemistry, and 1/3 physics. I have been approved to tutor physics by Wyzant, and I have previously tutored ONLY the physics section of the MCAT. As you know, I have a B.S. and an M.S. in physics. Therefore, I feel more than qualified to tutor this section of the MCAT.

Knowledgable and a big help!

Richard has been helping my daughter who is a high school Junior with Physics and Calculus. He has been a tremendous help so far in getting her ready for the school course work as well as preparing for the AP exams.

Knowledgeable and patient tutor

Richard has worked to improve the student's confidence in Physics C, filing in many gaps that the school teacher has left in teaching this subject. Richard has covered topics by going over past papers and his own material. I only wish my student had Richard as her classroom teacher!

Helpful tips for success.

Richard prepared my son for his Algebra 1 test by reviewing problems and teaching him shortcuts. He found the session to be very helpful.

Great communication with Parents

Richard called me before the lesson explaining his background, tutoring experience and also found out from us my child's information such as the textbook he is using etc. he also left detailed notes after the lesson so that I had good idea what was covered and my child's strength and weakness in the subject. I have found it the communication extremely helpful. Besides, my child told me he liked the teacher and had found him helpful, which is the most important!

Inspiring

In only a few sessions with Richard, our 10th grade son's attitude towards Physics has changed completely. He now has a much greater understanding of the subject and, therefore, has begun to really enjoy it. Richard is very knowledgeable and patient, and his enthusiasm is infectious. Our son feels very lucky to have found him.

Great MCAT physics tutor

I met with Richard towards the end of my MCAT studying to review very specific concepts that were confusing me. Richard was able to quickly jump from one specific topic to another and draw connections between them, which was extremely helpful for MCAT in particular. Richard could quickly glance at my notes then explain in detail the proof and explanation for why a certain formula works. For example, I was confused about the force of gravity between two objects and gravitational potential energy and potential energy of an object in orbit. Richard showed me the proofs for all of the formulas and explained the relationship between them. He was extremely good at explaining a variety of MCAT physics problems and was very encouraging. In a short time, he helped me understand a lot of previously confusing concepts and I definitely feel like meeting with him helped improve my MCAT score.
