I believe that effective teaching is founded upon experiential learning, an individualized approach, and mutual enthusiasm. I have a PhD in inorganic chemistry and have been teaching undergraduate and graduate students for more than 20 years. In addition, I have successfully tutored numerous students on the high school and undergraduate level.
I have always found chemistry to be a very exciting subject, and I hope to make my students feel the same way. I emphasize understanding over memorization, and try to use real life problems to teach basic laws and principles. Each student is different and learns differently, and I have had personal experience tailoring instructions to their unique strengths. For example, two of my own children have dyslexia, and helping them though their school years made me understand that every student can learn and excel, if you can find a right way to teach him or her. By teaching chemistry to large undergraduate classes, I have learned how to present information in a way that is accessible to a wide variety of students, but I prefer to work with students on an individual basis. Helping students achieve their individual educational goals, is a truly rewarding experience for me therefore I look forward to helping your child achieve their utmost potential. Marina had a great first session with my son on Honors Chemistry. She is very well prepared, knowledgeable, and patient. My son is looking forward to bringing his chemistry grade up with the help of Marina. She is a great tutor.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
