Hello! My name is Gaby, and I am a current senior at Tufts University. I grew up loving history and English, which quickly became my favorite subjects. I am still deeply passionate and excited about each of these subjects. I spent much of my time after school helping my sisters in these subjects and conducted official tutoring in these subjects through a course at my high school during my junior year. Additionally, I joined the public forum debate team, where I was the 2018 Massachusetts State Champion and Captain of the team in 2019. Our school is one of the few teams without a full-time coach, so I spent every day after school teaching about 30 freshman in high school public speaking and debate from scratch. My experience here was featured in the Girl Talk documentary about women in debate. I was also hired as an instructor for Lumos Debate Camp in 2018 and 2019, to teach about 10 middle school students at a time about public speaking and debate.
As a college student, I quickly became passionate about political science. I attacked each of my classes, mostly focused on comparative and American politics, voraciously, enjoying each one more than the last. I currently have a 3.8 GPA and a 4.0 political science GPA. I am also part of a youth civic education club called ACTION, where we teach young people, from ages 9 to 18, about local government, community organizing, and other aspects of civic engagement to try to show young people that they can make a difference in their community.
As a tutor, I believe I would be able to utilize this experience well. While I am excited about learning, I understand how it can be difficult. I focus on making topics as engaging as possible, tailoring them to a students learning style and interests. I like to provide opportunities for the students to think out loud and walk through their thinking, often guiding them with questions. I would be excited to help students with topics related to history, English, politics, public speaking, and debate.
