My experience and passion for working with children

I am an enthusiastic teacher. I have worked for 26 years as a public school elementary school teacher in grades K-3. For the last 23 years I have been a teacher in a local public school system. I have taught children with and without children with special needs in the classroom and as a tutor.

Extensive experience using multiple phonics approaches.

I love the challenge and rewards of individualizing and differentiating instruction to match students’ interests, strengths and struggles. I design curriculum for each child based on his/her individual needs, bring engaging and hands-on materials to each tutoring session and incorporate a variety of teaching approaches including multi-sensory experiences.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Phonics

I have taught the phonics program, New Phonics, to kindergartners for over 15 years. I also have worked with a variety of materials to teach phonics in various ways to students in grades K-2. My methods have been used with students one on one, in small, and large groups.
