I am an experienced tutor in math, chemistry, and physics currently working for the Newton Public Schools. I am currently licensed to teach mathematics at the high school and middle school levels, and expect to obtain my certification to teach chemistry later this year. In addition to my experience teaching at the high school level, I also have prior experience teaching at the college level - first as a TA in graduate school in Colorado and later as a TA at Harvard. In both cases I taught classes in physics and chemistry and helped students with their homework assignments. In addition to my background in math and science, I am also highly knowledgeable in economics, history, grammar, and vocabulary. I have scored in the 99th percentile on standardized tests (all sections) and have many helpful test preparation strategies to share with those planning to take the SAT and GRE exams.

My schedule is very flexible, and I'm available most weekends and some weekday afternoons and evenings. My style of teaching and tutoring is structured but also friendly and conversational - I want to make sure you don't just memorize everything but that you actually understand the larger concepts. A key factor in achieving this is motivation - before you can learn anything, you have to *want* to learn. In this regard, I'm pretty good at making even the driest subject matter interesting, whether by relating it to real-world problems, showing how it is relevant to daily life, or sometimes simply by illustrating the value of knowledge for its own sake.

So, give me a try - I think you'll be happy with the results!

The SAT reading exam tests your knowledge of vocabulary and reading comprehension. Although I'm not a perfect scorer on this exam, I did get a 710 when I took the exam years ago, and consistently score in the 750-780 range on the reading section whenever I take the practice exams nowadays. Calculus is a highly practical branch of mathematics with many applications in the natural sciences, economics, and engineering. The good news is that it's not as difficult as it may seem - at least not basic single-variable calculus. I can help you overcome any obstacles you may have with respect to differentiation, integration, and any of their numerous applications. I can also help with related problems of limits, infinite series, and numerical methods for solving basic calculus problems.

SAT Math,

I scored a perfect 800 on the math portion of the SAT, and routinely score 800 on the math section whenever I take the practice exams. Even if you aren't shooting for 800, the SAT math exam is definitely one where you can markedly improve your score with even just a limited amount of studying and practice. Fortunately, the SAT math exam covers a specific, well-defined set of topics, and tends to ask the same types of questions in the same way year after year. I will help you with the topics that you find the most difficult, and I have some basic strategies to offer that will help you effectively organize your preparation and maximize your test scores.

Outstanding SAT and ACT Prep

Andrew has been an outstanding SAT and ACT prep tutor for my daughter, a junior in HS. We have worked with a few other tutors on different subjects over the years. Andrew has exceeded our expectations. He is very knowledgeable, has a great teaching style and delivers consistent and excellent work. I would like to recommend Andrew as an excellent tutor and also a smart and intelligent person. It has been a pleasant and beneficial tutoring experience for my daughter.

Excellent teacher!

Andrew is an amazing tutor! My son is dyslexic and tests are very hard for him, but with Andrew's help he got an A in college calculus. Andrew is continuing to tutor my sons (14, 17 and 19) for this semester and I am hesitant to write this review so that I could keep Andrew as our" hidden gem."
