About Mariel

I received my master's from Harvard Graduate School of Education, and my bachelor's degree from Georgetown University. I tutor in a variety of areas such as reading/writing, including test preparation. I have experience working with students on application essays for undergraduate and graduate school admissions, including Ivy League and preparatory schools.

In addition to subject tutoring and application assistance, I am also available for life/academic coaching for students of all ages. If your child needs help learning how to study, organizing school work or their home life, or generally needs help learning life skills, then I might be the tutor for you.

7+ years of tutoring/teaching experience ages 3 to adult:

Test prep (SAT, PSAT, ACT, ISEE)
Admissions essays
Admissions consulting (elementary-graduate school)
Study skills
Habit formation

Here is what one family had to say about their tutoring experience:

"Mariel has worked with us for two months now, and we are extremely pleased. She is prompt, reliable, and enthusiastic about her work. She connects well with both us and our child. She is able to work well with him on study skills and organization, as well as writing, across all subjects. She articulates her reasoning to us for her approach and actions. We have seen improvement in our child's grades."

Feel free to contact me with any questions (including last-minute or one-time inquiries). I look forward hearing from you!

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
