My name is Derek and I am certified in English grades 8-12. I completed my student teaching at New Bedford High School in 2012 and completed Bridgewater State University in 2012. Since then, I am nearly complete with my Master's in Teaching from UMASS Dartmouth (graduating in Spring 2015). I am currently an Assistant Teacher at READS Academy in Middleboro, MA in the 7th and 8th grade where I assist both classes in every class. Even though I regularly help students with math and science, they are not my strong suits.
I have always loved to teach teenagers who are willing to learn. Literature is certainly my strong suit and I thoroughly enjoy to read and learn about reading. I am also a historian who loves to continue to learn things from the past. As far as hours for tutoring, I will be available any day after school and weekends for as much as you need. Thank you for taking the time in considering me as a tutor.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
