I am a Massachusetts licensed mathematics teacher, and tutor of 7+ years - including SAT Math and English for The Princeton Review. Since 2010, I have tutored students in Standardized Tests (SAT, ACT, GRE, ASVAB, GED), K-12 Math, Chess, and even Guitar. I write custom practice problems and create worksheets so students can benefit from additional assignments.

My SAT, ACT, GED (High School Equivalency Exam) tutoring is focused on a two tier approach: content and strategy. I teach both the academic concepts tested (Algebra 1, Algebra 2, Geometry, Pre-Calculus, etc.), as well as the best methods for problem solving (Picking Your Own Number, Plugging In, etc.). Standardized tests, especially the SAT, ACT, and GED are designed to be tricky, so understanding how to approach a math problem is at least as important as knowing the content being tested. For this reason, I show my students time saving tips, tricks, and shortcuts that can increase scores on the SAT, ACT, and GED math sections. I help instill confidence and reduce test anxiety through positive reinforcement, so students believe in their abilities to succeed.

When I tutor for the ASVAB and GRE, I emphasize content review because many students learned the material years ago and have not practiced it since high school or even earlier. I fill academic gaps and teach the skills that are necessary for success in those specific tests. Through practice problems and drills, I help familiarize students with the types of questions asked on the ASVAB and GRE, so they are prepared on test day.

My K-12 Academic Math tutoring is based on the philosophy that math is pyramid. Students need to master math from the ground up, so that they can continue to excel in increasingly complex disciplines. For example, Arithmetic is a prerequisite for Algebra 1, and Algebra 1 is a prerequisite for SAT Math. For this reason, I try to fill any academic gaps to ensure that students are ready and prepared for the next level in their math education. I am available to assist with homework, classwork, and test prep for a variety of K-12 school subjects including ACT Math, Algebra 1, Algebra 2, Common Core, Geometry, Pre-Calculus, Probability, SAT Math, Statistics, and Trigonometry.

As a former full time math teacher, I am an expert in content differentiation and have had the pleasure of working with a variety of students on everything from Arithmetic to Pre-Calculus. I followed the Common Core curriculum and modeled my teaching to fit Bloom’s Taxonomy. I am also experienced in working with students who have IEPs and ISPs for ADHD, ODD, Anxiety, Depression, and Trauma who benefit from a more personalized approach to instruction.

I am also set up to tutor students online through the Wyzant platform. The video, audio, chat, and interactive whiteboard functionalities make tutoring math online as effective as tutoring in person. I tutor many students from all over the country, and the system works great.

Finally, my teaching style is focused on tailoring the lesson to the individual needs of the student. I build rapport and make learning fun and enjoyable, so tutoring sessions are something students will look forward to and be excited about. I am patient, understanding, and want my students to succeed!

If you are looking for a professional, tenured, and fun tutor to help with SAT Math, ACT Math, GED Math, ASVAB, GRE Math or K-12 Academic Math, please contact me.

I am located in the Greater Boston area, and look forward to working with you!

***I am happy to accommodate individual schedules to find a time that works, but please note that I request a 36 hour notice for lesson cancellations. Otherwise, the student is responsible for the full fee of the lesson***

Elementary Education

Common Core,

Common Core

As a former Massachusetts licensed full time math teacher, I taught in a classroom setting according to the Common Core standards. I designed mini units and lesson plans to model the math standards by domain. My pedagogy was consistent with Bloom’s Taxonomy and focused on content differentiation. In addition, I have experience teaching Common Core to students with IEPs and ISPs for ADHD, ODD, Anxiety, Depression, and Trauma, who benefit from a more personalized approach to instruction.
Elementary Math

Elementary Math

I am a Massachusetts licensed math teacher with Common Core teaching experience. I a happy to help with Elementary Math homework, classwork, test preparation, and confidence building! Topics I cover include: arithmetic, decimals/fractions/percents, number operations, graphing, properties of numbers, units & measurement, algebraic thinking, etc. I can also help with Algebra 1, Algebra 2, and beyond - solving for “x”, inequalities, functions, geometry, ratios & proportions, isolating variables, manipulating equations, graphing, working with polynomials, understanding word problems, etc. I can help with homework, classwork, and test prep - I have personally taught using the Common Core standards, so I am familiar with the requirements and procedures. Since math is pyramid and relies on prior knowledge, I try to fill any academic gaps to ensure that students are successful in both Elementary Math, and subsequent math disciplines. I not only teach students how to solve problems, but also explain why the methods work - this approach pushes students to develop independence in solving problems and gain a deeper understanding of math. I help instill confidence and reduce test anxiety through positive reinforcement, so students believe in their abilities to succeed at Elementary Math and beyond.

I am a Massachusetts licensed math teacher, and former instructor for The Princeton Review. I have been tutoring since 2010, and am an expert on helping students succeed at Algebra 1 – solving for “x”, functions, system of equations, inequalities, ratios & proportions, isolating variables, manipulating equations, graphing, working with polynomials, understanding word problems, etc. I can help with homework, classwork, and test prep – I have personally taught using the Common Core standards, so I am familiar with the requirements and procedures. I am a Massachusetts licensed math teacher, and former SAT Math instructor for The Princeton Review. I am an expert in helping students succeed in Algebra 2, and can help with homework, classwork, and test prep – I have personally taught using the Common Core standards, so I am familiar with the requirements and procedures. Because most students take Algebra 2 two years after Algebra 1 (with Geometry in between), they forget some of the concepts they learned and struggle with new material. For this reason, I work with my clients to fill academic gaps (content from previous disciplines including Algebra 1, Geometry, etc.) to ensure that they are successful in Algebra 2 and beyond.

Great Tutor!

i hired leo over the summer to help my son study for the ssat exam. with leo's help, i am happy to say that my son's scores increased 189 points. thanks leo!

April, 10 lessons with Leo

Knowledgeable, organized, and patient

Right from the onset, Leo showed mastery in his ability to tutor young adults. Within a short period of time, he was able to identify how my son learns, and apply techniques to best prepare for his SAT. He was well prepared with documentation, practice workbooks, websites, and directions on how to best apply learning techniques to optimize my son's SAT score. He was patient as well, and kept a decent pace. We never had to wait for to fit into his tutoring schedule and when we were late a few times, he quickly adjusted his schedule to meet our needs. We applaud Leo on a job well done!

Leo Rocks

Leo is fabulous. We don't want to share him, so don't want to say too much, but everyone needs a Leo if they want to top the SAT 5%'s. (seriously, this guy rocks Math SAT prep: amazing)

Positive and Knowledgeable Math Wizard!

Leo has been working with 3 of my children, (yes..Triplets) who all have different strengths and learning styles. He is very flexible in working with each of them, is encouraging and quite patient. His personality is easy going, but he is very thorough. All of my teens are progressing well as Leo assists them through practice tests and follow-up weekly. He has provided many strategies for the math SAT and ACT test taking process and is very fluent with the testing materials, study guides and content of the various tests. As a former Princeton Review tutor, his experience is more specific to understanding the testing models and approaches to answering the questions in a timely manner. Great value and terrific person. Thank you Leo!!

SAT Math Tutor

Leo tutored me in SAT math. We went over SAT strategy as well content. He is a great teacher and makes studying for the SAT, feel much more tolerable. His sessions are engaging, and he often uses humour when the material is boring. I strongly recommend using Leo. I have seen my score go up every week and feel much more prepared for the SAT.
